Joy Bryant was born on October 19, 1976 in The Bronx, New York. She began her acting career when she starred as Nikki in the musical film Carmen: A Hip Hopera. She has since appeared in other films like Showtime and Antwone Fisher.

In 2003, she gained wider recognition when she starred as Gina in the film Honey. That same year, she was cast as Valerie Gallant in the television series ER, where she played a recurring role.

She went on to make a guest appearance in the TV series Love Bites. In addition, she has been playing the role of Jasmine in the series Parenthood from 2010 up to present.
