Abby Elliott was born on June 16, 1987 in New York, USA. She enjoyed acting in school plays at Our Lady of Fatima School in Wilton when she was a child.

After graduating from high school, she attended Marymount Manhattan College in New York City but dropped out during the first semester. She then took comedy classes at The Groundlings and started performing in several sketch comedy shows.

She shot to fame when she joined the cast of Saturday Night Live in its 34th season. She has since made television guest appearances in such shows as 2 Broke Girls, How I Met Your Mother and Happy Endings.
