Alexandra Shipp was born on July 16, 1991 in Phoenix, Arizona, USA. She was 17 when she relocated to Los Angeles to become an actress. She made her debut in 2009 when she landed a role in Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel. Her next acting gig came two years later. She appeared in an episode of Switched at Birth and had a role in the movie In Time.

In 2013, she became known for her starring role on the TV series House of Anubis. She then appeared in 3 episodes of the soap opera Days of Our Lives. She also starred on the TV movies Drumline: A New Beat and Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B. She went on to star as Kimberly Woodruff in Straight Outta Compton. She received further fame when she played Storm in X-Men: Apocalypse.
