Bollywood star Alia Bhatt has been exposed to the world of acting since her childhood. This is because her parents work in the said industry. This allowed her to make her screen debut in Sangharsh when she was young. In the 2010s, she decided to pursue acting full-time. She starred in the film Student of the Year as one of the leading roles. The film’s success also earner her prominence. She was nominated for the Best Female Debut at the Filmfare Awards for this. Her role in Highway also got her rave reviews. This also won her the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress. Her starring roles in the successful features Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania cemented her stardom.
Standing at 5’3, the petite actress is still young (she’s only 23) to worry about her weight, but she does not stay complacent. Eating healthy is something that she does not only to look good, but to also feel great. She knows that loading her system with junk and processed foods would only make her weaker. This would also take a toll in her overall well-being some time in the future. Thus, she wants to take care of herself as early as possible. However, Alia was not always skinny. Before her breakthrough in Student of the Year, she was actually heavier.
In fact, when she auditioned for the film she was told she would get the part if she would lose 20 kilograms in 6 months, which she did. She said of the experience: “It was sheer pain. I felt as if I was an ugly duckling. At first, I was embarrassed, but later felt angry that I had gone to meet a director in the shape I was in. I decided to shed weight first, meet him and take the role. Only that would redeem my self-respect.” As for her diet plan, she said: “I was put on to a personal fitness instructor, who put me on a diet. So all I ate was vegetables and chicken and gave up everything that I loved to eat.”
