Biography:
Angela Bassett was born on August 16, 1958 in Harlem, New York, U.S. She studied at Yale University where she earned her B.A. in African-American studies. She later completed her Master of Fine Arts degree from the Yale School of Drama.
Her first television appearance was in the 1985 TV film Doubletake and made her big screen debut the following year with the movie F/X. In 1992, she portrayed Katherine Jackson in The Jacksons: An American Dream.
She gained further fame in 1993 after her portrayal of Tina Turner in What’s Love Got to Do with It, for which she won a Golden Globe Award and received an Academy Award nomination for her performance.
