English actress Anna Friel started her career on the British screen during her early teens in the ’90s. During her initial years she appeared on the miniseries G.B.H.. Her first notable role was on the British show Brookside. She went on to make her big screen debut in The Land Girls. She next appeared in the film A Midsummer Night’s Dream. In the 2000s, she had roles in the movies Timeline, Perfect Strangers, and Goal! 2: Living the Dream. She had her breakthrough when she starred on the TV series Pushing Daisies as Charlotte “Chuck” Charles. This got her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress. She also played the title character in the movie Countess Erzsébet Báthory. In the 2010s, she had supporting roles in Limitless and Having You, as well as played the lead on the short-lived series American Odyssey.
Now 40 years old, the actress made the headlines years ago when she revealed her extreme dieting secrets to maintain her youth. In 2013, she admitted how she practiced a crash diet to remain youthful. This mainly involved substituting solid food with 12 cups a day of a cocktail of maple syrup, cayenne pepper and lemon juice. She said in an interview: “I feel so much better and my skin has really benefited. If you’re vain, as you get older you start thinking, “I’ve got to do everything I can to save my skin”. She also revealed that she’s tried everything.
The actress, at the time, was reported of going through the said diet, also called as master cleanse, for two months. During this period, she would only consume 600 calories per day. This resulted to her appearing severely gaunt. When asked about her diet, she said:
“I am the most natural when it comes to food, I eat really quite organically I believe that whatever you put into your body feeds the skin and I can really tell the difference when my diet changes and it’s that age old boring thing called H2O and I really have to make myself, really force myself, to drink water.”
