Biography:

Awkwafina was born on June 2, 1988 in Stony Brook, New York, USA. During college, she attended University at Albany, State University of New York where she majored in journalism and women’s studies. In 2014, she made her television debut as herself in the MTV show Girl Code. She later hosted the spin-off program Girl Code Live.

She next hosted the show Tawk. Later in 2016, she had her first movie role as Christine in Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising. Two years later, Awkwafina had notable roles in the Netflix film Dude, as well as in the major Hollywood films Ocean’s 8 and Crazy Rich Asians. Her lead role as Billi Wang in the 2019 film The Farewell earned her a Golden Globe for Best Actress. This makes her the first Asian woman to win a Golden Globe in any lead actress category.
