Biography:
Benicio del Toro was born on February 19, 1967 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He was 12 when he moved to Mercersburg, Pennsylvania with his father and brother. After high school, he enrolled at the University of California, San Diego with a business degree course. He later dropped out in favor of acting. He went on train with Stella Adler and Arthur Mendoza.
He then started his career in the 1980s with television roles, though it was in the 1990s that his performances became more significant. Some of these performances were The Usual Suspects and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. In 2000, he starred in Traffic, which earned him Academy Award and Golden Globe awards for Best Supporting Actor. Over the next few years, he has built his career with notable roles in Snatch, Sin City, and Che, the last of which he played the title role, and earned him a Best Actor Award at the Cannes Film Festival.
