In 2015, Bollywood star Bhumi Pednekar had her career beginnings co-starring in the film Dum Laga Ke Haisha. The movie was both a commercial and critical success, catapulting her to fame. For her performance, she won the Best Female Debut at the Filmfare Awards and Producers Guild Film Awards, to name a few.

Her next roles came in 2017 with the films Toilet: Ek Prem Katha and Shubh Mangal Saavdhan. For her work in the latter, she received a Filmfare nomination for Best Actress. She was also nominated at the International Indian Film Academy Awards. The following year, she starred in one segment of the anthology film Lust Stories.

In 2019, she starred in four films: Sonchiriya, Saand Ki Aankh, Bala, and Pati Patni Aur Woh. Her portrayal of Chandro Tomar in Saand Ki Aankh earned her critical acclaim, for which she won the Critics Award for Best Actress at the Filmfare Awards and Screen Awards. Pednekar’s career further flourished in the 2020s, starring in the films Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan and Bhoot – Part One: The Haunted Ship. She later starred in the Netflix movie Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare, as well as in the Amazon Prime film Durgamati.

In her debut film Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Bhumi Pednekar played an overweight newlywed woman. When she won an award six months later, she surprised fans and audiences alike with her slimmer, more toned body. It turns out that the actress lost 70 pounds. To lose weight, she took the healthy route. No diet pills or any other weight loss fads prevalent today, just the old-fashioned healthy eating and regular exercising.

While she didn’t deprive herself of food, the award-winning actress made sure she followed a clean diet plan. She also eliminated sugar from her diet. “Food makes me happy. It’s for the soul. I’ve never deprived myself of eating anything I’ve wanted. I had ghee, butter, buttermilk and the only thing I stopped having completely was sugar,” said the actress. “But yes, I controlled my carbohydrate intake too. I followed my regular diet, exercised portion control and was very particular about not bingeing. I had a cheat meal every five days.”
