Billy Joel:
$200 million
Billy Joel is an American singer-songwriter and pianist. He released his debut studio album Cold Spring Harbor in 1971. After signing to Columbia Records, he released his second album Piano Man the following year, which contained the hit song of the same name. Piano Man has since been considered his signature song. He came to wider prominence in 1977 with the release of the album The Stranger. It spawned the hit songs “Just the Way You Are”, “Only the Good Die Young”, and “She’s Always a Woman”.
In 1978, the album 52nd Street came out. It became his first album to reach atop the Billboard 200 chart. The album Glass Houses came next in 1980 with the popular single “It’s Still Rock & Roll to Me” — his first single to reach number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Throughout his career in 20 years as a solo artist, he made 33 songs that reached the Top 40 chart, which he wrote himself. He has since sold more than 150 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling artists of all time. His latest album release was Fantasies & Delusions in 2001.
