He later had roles in the films Heavy Petting and Deep in the Valley in the next couple of years. Hines gained wider recognition for his starring role as Eli Loker in the Fox series Lie to Me. In the 2010s, he had recurring roles as Gideon Wallace in Scandal, Aidan in Betrayal, Logan Sanders in Suits, Drew Baker in Scorpion, and Ethan Raines in MacGyver. As of 2016, he plays the role of Superian in The Tick.
