Debbie Allen is an American actress, dancer and choreographer. In the 1980s, she rose to fame for her role as Lydia Grant in the musical-drama show Fame. For her performance, she won the Golden Globe for Best Actress, as well as two Primetime Emmy awards in the choreography category. She then ventured into directing and producing with the comedy series A Different World. In the 1990s, she returned to acting with her role as Jackie Warren in the NBC sitcom In the House. Between 2007 and 2014, she appeared as herself in the reality dance series So You Think You Can Dance. Since 2011, she’s also been playing Dr. Catherine Avery Fox in Grey’s Anatomy. She also plays recurring role Charice Harrelson in CBS’ S.W.A.T.
