Biography:

Disha Vakani was born on August 17, 1978 in Ahmedabad, India. She attended Gujarat College in Ahmedabad where she graduated with a degree in Dramatic Arts.

She began her acting career as a stage performer, appearing in such plays as Kamal Patel v/s Dhamal Patel, and Lali Lila. She then ventured into film, having small roles in such movies as Devdas and Jodha Akbar.

In 2008, she made her breakthrough after she was cast as Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah in the the comedy series Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, which she still plays. Her performance in this show earned her the Indian Television Academy Awards for Best Actress – Comedy twice in 2008 and 2009.
