Emmy Rossum was born on September 12, 1986 in New York City, USA. She has performed in more than 20 operas in six different languages at Lincoln Center in New York.

In 1997, she had her television debut, appearing in Law & Order. She then had a recurring role as Abigail Williams in the long-running daytime soap As the World Turns. She made her silver screen debut in 2000’s Songcatcher.

She had her breakthrough role in the blockbuster film The Day After Tomorrow as Laura Chapman. In 2004, she earned critical acclaim for her performance in The Phantom of the Opera.
