Biography:
Hiroyuki Sanada was born on October 12, 1960 in Tokyo, Japan. He had always wanted to be an action star, eventually taking Kyokushinkaikan. He started training at the age of 11 with actor and martial arts star Sonny Chiba where he developed martial arts ability.
He has established himself as a character actor, being first noticed in the film Mahjong Hourouki directed by Makoto Wada. In 1999 and 2000, he performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company in their production of King Lear.
He then starred in well-known films, including The Last Samurai, Rush Hour 3, Sunshine, Speed Racer, and The Wolverine.
