Biography:
Hugo Weaving was born on 4 April 1960 in Ibadan, Nigeria. In 1981, he attended the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney. His first film role was in 1983’s The City’s Edge. The following year, he starred as Douglas Jardine in the miniseries Bodyline. He’s since starred in the miniseries The Dirtwater Dynasty and Melba. In 1991, he played the lead in the film Proof, which won him the AACTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role.
After starring in several Australian movies, Weaving rose to fame in Hollywood for playing Agent Smith in The Matrix. He has since reprised his role in the sequels The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions. He also portrayed Elrond in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. In 2006, he played V in the movie V for Vendetta. Weaving is also the voice of Megatron in the Transformers films. In the 2010s, he played Elrond again in The Hobbit films, played Johann Schmidt / Red Skull in Captain America: The First Avenger, and earned praise for his performance in The Dressmaker.
