James Spader is an American actor. He had his career beginnings in the late 1970s, first appearing in the film Team-Mates. In 1981, he played Keith Butterfield in the movie Endless Love. He next had roles in the films Tuff Turf and The New Kids before playing Steff in Pretty in Pink. His performance as Graham Dalton in the 1989 film Sex, Lies, and Videotape earned him acclaim. Also in the 1980s, he played Jake Nichols in the TV series The Family Tree. During the 1990s, he starred in the films True Colors, Stargate, and Crash. The following decade, he portrayed Daniel Ellsberg in the TV movie The Pentagon Papers. From 2004 to 2008, he starred as Alan Shore in the ABC series Boston Legal. In the 2010s, he played Robert California in The Office. Since 2013, he stars as Raymond “Red” Reddington in The Blacklist.
