Biography:
Janet McTeer was born on 5 August 1961 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. She got her drama training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. She then performed on stage with Royal Exchange Theatre after her studies. In 1985, she made her screen debut in the TV series Juliet Bravo. Her first movie appearance came the next year with a small role in Half Moon Street. From 1995 to 1996, she played Helen Hewitt in the ITV series The Governor.
She then gained acclaim for her role as Mary Jo Walker in the 1999 film Tumbleweeds, earning her a nomination for Best Actress at the Academy Awards. In the 2000s, she had notable performances in the films Waking the Dead, Songcatcher, and Into the Storm. In 2011, she starred in the movie Albert Nobbs and was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Academy Awards and Golden Globes. She later starred in the shows Damages and The White Queen. She recently played Alisa Jones in Netflix’s Jessica Jones’ second season.
