Jean Smart is an American actress. She has been acting since the 1980s. Her first TV role was as Joan Reynolds on the ABC sitcom Reggie. Meanwhile, she made her film debut as Doris in 1984’s Flashpoint. Her breakthrough role was as Charlene Olivia Frazier Stillfield on the CBS sitcom Designing Women, which she starred in from 1986 to 1991. Afterward, she starred as Elinore ‘Ellie’ Walker on another CBS sitcom High Society.
In the 2000s, she became best known for her roles as Detective Sherry Regan on The District, Lana Gardner on Frasier, and Dr. Ann Possible (voice) on Kim Possible. She went on to play Martha Logan on 24 and Regina Newly on Samantha Who?. More recently, she played Floyd Gerhardt on Fargo and currently stars as Melanie Bird on Legion. On the big screen, she’s widely known for her supporting/starring roles in The Brady Bunch Movie (1995), Guinevere (1999), Sweet Home Alabama (2002), I Heart Huckabees (2004), and The Accountant (2016).
