Biography:
Joaquin Phoenix was born on October 28, 1974 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He began his career as a child performer but only gained international attention when he starred as Commodus in the historical epic film Gladiator.
For his work in Gladiator, he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor, as well as various nominations from prestigious award-giving bodies.
In 2005, he went on to receive further acclaim for his portrayal of musician Johnny Cash in the biographical movie Walk the Line, for which he won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor and received an Academy Award nomination in the same category.
