John Lithgow is an American actor. He’s been acting since the 1970s. He debuted in the 1972 film Dealing: Or the Berkeley-to-Boston Forty-Brick Lost-Bag Blues. In the ’80s, he had roles in the films Twilight Zone: The Movie, Terms of Endearment, and Footloose, among others. His performance in the film The World According to Garp earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. He was also nominated for his role in Terms of Endearment. In the 1990s, he portrayed Lieutenant Colonel Bruce Derringer in the movie Memphis Belle. From 1996 to 2001, he gained wider recognition for starring as Dick Solomon in the sitcom 3rd Rock from the Sun. Later in the 2000s, he had performances in the films The Pelican Brief, The Life and Death of Peter Sellers, Dreamgirls, Confessions of a Shopaholic, and many others. Between 2016 and 2019, he portrayed Winston Churchill in The Crown.
