Joonas Suotamo is a Finnish actor. Prior to his acting career, he worked as a professional basketball player. In 2015, he started his feature film career where he got the role of Chewbacca in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. During this year, he started as the body double for the original Chewbacca actor Peter Mayhew. He eventually replaced Mayhew, starring in the sequel Star Wars: The Last Jedi. He also reprised the part in 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story. He will again play the role of Chewbacca in the upcoming 2019 sequel Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
