Jurnee Smollett-Bell was born on October 1, 1986 in New York City, New York, United States. Her career in Hollywood started in 1991 as a child actress. She then landed the role of Denise Frazer on the sitcom Full House, gaining her recognition. After Full House, she landed the main role of Jordee Jerrico on the sitcom On Our Own. For this, she received a Young Artist Award nomination for Best Performance by an Actress Under Ten in a TV Series.

She went on to play the titular character in the 1997 drama film Eve’s Bayou, for which she won the Critics’ Choice Movie Award for Best Child Performance. She next joined the main cast of the sitcom Cosby. As an adult, she continued her career on TV, playing Jess Merriweather on Friday Night Lights. She then starred on the short-lived show The Defenders and played Nicole Wright on True Blood. As of 2016, she stars on the TV series Underground.
