American singer-songwriter Kacey Musgraves first self-released three albums during the start of her career. In 2007, she competed in the reality talent series Nashville Star where she placed seventh. She got signed to Mercury Nashville in 2012, releasing her debut album Same Trailer Different Park. Receiving critical praise, it won her the Best Country Album Award at the Grammys.
Its lead single, “Merry Go ‘Round”, also won Best Country Song. Another single from the album, “Follow the Arrow”, won her the Song of the Year Award at the Country Music Association Award. Her second album, Pageant Material, was next released in 2015. It received a Grammy nomination for Best Country Album. Her latest album, Golden Hour, was released last year. It won the Album of the Year and Best Country Album awards at the Grammys. The singles “Butterflies” and “Space Cowboy” also became huge hits.
The 31-year-old singer finds it tough to consistently eat clean, especially during tours, but she tries her best. “It is torture sometimes trying to eat healthy on the road, but I try my best. It’s all about balance and still letting my tastebuds enjoy themselves,” said the acclaimed singer-songwriter. “If there’s a reason to celebrate or I’m somewhere that has some kind of food that I know I won’t be able to resist, then I try to eat lighter all around that. Also, I try to eliminate carbs and most processed foods.”
Cutting out gluten from her diet also made a great deal of difference in her body. “I’m not diagnosed with celiac disease, but I tried cutting gluten out of my diet a few years ago and it changed my world—and my body!” she shared. “It’s creepy how pretty much everything contains gluten once you start paying attention to it. So I try my best to go for things I know intrinsically shouldn’t have gluten.”
