Biography:

Kara Tointon was born on 5 August 1983 in Basildon, Essex, England. When she was seven, she was diagnosed with dyslexia. During her school years, she took speech and drama lessons. She became more active on television in the early 2000s. During this period, she played Pauline Young in the show Teachers. She next played Gabby in Harry and Cosh. In 2003, she made her big-screen debut in the movie Boudica.

The following year, she had a role in the film The Football Factory. From 2005 to 2009, she became widely known for her role as Dawn Swann in EastEnders. After this, she competed in Strictly Come Dancing where she was the winner. She went on to star in 2012’s The Sweeney, followed by Last Passenger. She next starred on the TV series Mr Selfridge. This year, she played the role of Betsey Day in the show The Halcyon.
