Scottish actress Kelly Macdonald had her career beginnings in the mid-1990s. She made her debut with a supporting role in the movie Trainspotting. She has since appeared in the films Stella Does Tricks, Cousin Bette, Elizabeth, and Splendor. In the 2000s, she had roles in the films Gosford Park, Finding Neverland, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Lassie and Nanny McPhee, among others. In 2011, she portrayed Helena Ravenclaw in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2. On television, her first notable role was in State of Play. She then became further known for playing Margaret Thompson on Boardwalk Empire in the 2010s. This year, she starred in the TV film The Child in Time.
The 41-year-old actress stays fit and healthy by practicing a clean lifestyle. Aside from her physical efforts such as working out, she also eats well. She also shares how being in her native Scotland brings out the food lover in her. She said in an interview: “I love Two Fat Ladies at the Buttery, one of the oldest restaurants in Glasgow, with dark-wood paneling and tartan upholstery. The menu has all kinds of locally sourced fish like sea trout, sea bream, seared scallops. They do an amazing sole meunière.”
She’s also one of those people who eat a full and a healthy breakfast. When she can’t have it at home, there are plenty of places in Scotland she can get it from. She revealed: “I go to Cafezique for Scottish breakfast: sausage, bacon, eggs, baked beans with black pudding, which is basically blood with sausage (it’s delicious, but you don’t want to think about it too much). At chip shops, I love to get potato fritters. You put them in a Scottish morning roll, then add ketchup and butter; we don’t have the highest rate of heart disease in Europe for no reason.”
