Ken Watanabe is a Japanese actor. He started his career in the early 1980s in Japan. During this period and until the ’90s, he worked in Japanese films. In 2003, he gained international recognition for his role as Katsumoto Moritsugu in the Hollywood film The Last Samurai. After this, he portrayed Chairman Ken Iwamura in the movie Memoirs of a Geisha. His performance as General Tadamichi Kuribayashi in the 2006 film Letters from Iwo Jima gained him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. In the 2010s, he had notable roles in the Hollywood films Shanghai, Inception, and Godzilla. He also voiced Drift in Transformers: Age of Extinction and Transformers: The Last Knight. He recently starred in the 2019 film Pokémon Detective Pikachu.
