Hollywood actor Lou Diamond Phillips debuted in the 1980s, initially playing small roles on TV and film. His portrayal of Ritchie Valens in the 1987 film in the biographical film La Bamba garnered him significant attention. He next played the lead in the 1988 movie Dakota. He next starred in the film Stand and Deliver, a role that won him the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Male.
He also received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor. At the same time, he portrayed Jose Chavez y Chavez in Young Guns. He reprised his role in the 1990 sequel Young Guns II. He went on to have starring roles in several films, including The Dark Wind, Shadow of the Wolf, Extreme Justice, Courage Under Fire, and Brokedown Palace, among others. The actor also became best known for his role as Henry Standing Bear in the A&E series Longmire. As of 2019, he stars as Gil Arroyo in the Fox series Prodigal Son.
