Biography:
Maggie Gyllenhaal was born on November 16, 1977 in Lower East Side, Manhattan, New York. Her parents are Stephen Gyllenhaal and Naomi Foner, who are both filmmakers.
She made her acting debut in her father’s film, Waterland, in 1992. She then took a break from acting to receive a degree in Literature from Columbia University in 1999.
In 2002, she made her breakthrough in the film Secretary, for which she earned critical acclaim and a Golden Globe nomination.
She went on to star in the 2009 musical-drama Crazy Heart, where she got nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
