Biography:
Manu Bennett was born on October 10, 1969 in Rotorua, New Zealand, though he grew up in Australia. When he was 17, he returned to New Zealand to attend Te Aute College, but eventually returned to Australia where he joined a Rugby Union Team at his school. He quit the rugby team and went to university to study dance and drama and even traveled to Los Angeles to train at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute.
Beginning his career on Australian television, he first became noticed for his role as Crixus in the Starz television series Spartacus. Afterwards, he gained wider recognition for playing Slade Wilson on Arrow. He’s now part of the main cast of the TV series The Shannara Chronicles. Also, he’s played Azog the Defiler in The Hobbit trilogy films.
