Martha Plimpton was born on November 16, 1970 in New York City, New York. Her career began at the age of eight, when she was enrolled in an actors’ workshop.

Then at the age of 10, she landed a minor role in the film Rollover. Her breakthrough performance came in 1985 when she starred in The Goonies.

In 1986, she portrayed Emily Spellgood in the film The Mosquito Coast, for which her role garnered good reviews within the feature film industry.

Through the course of her career, she has received three consecutive Tony nominations and three Primetime Emmy nominations.
