Biography:
Matthew Gray Gubler was born on March 9, 1980 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He attended Tisch School of the Arts at NYU to study film directing. While a student there, he worked as a model where he booked jobs for Marc Jacobs and American Eagle. During this period, he was an intern under filmmaker Wes Anderson who encouraged him to audition for his movie The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou in 2004. He ended up getting a small part.
The following year, he gained mainstream recognition after he began playing Dr. Spencer Reid in Criminal Minds, a role he has since become known for. In the late 2000s, he has also acted in a number of feature films, including The Great Buck Howard, How to Be a Serial Killer, and (500) Days of Summer. He’s also known for voicing Simon Seville in Alvin and the Chipmunks and its sequels. His most recent films are Life After Beth and Suburban Gothic.
