Maya Kazan was born on November 24, 1986 in Los Angeles, California. Fellow actress Zoe Kazan is her sister. She started acting in the late 2000s by appearing in short films. Soon she acted on the stage as well. Her first movie was in the relatively unknown film Every Saturday. Her second movie role was the 2012 comedy-drama Frances Ha.

She got her break the following year as Eleanor Gallinger on the TV series The Knick. Steven Soderbergh cast her for the part. She’s credited as one of the starring characters on the show.
