Biography:
Meryl Streep was born on June 22, 1949 in Summit, New Jersey. She made her stage debut in 1971 with the play The Playboy of Seville. In 1976, she was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play her performance in A Memory of Two Mondays/27 Wagons Full of Cotton. The following year, she made her screen debut in the TV film The Deadliest Season.
She gained critical acclaim on the big screen for her role in the 1978 film The Deer Hunter, for which she received her first Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. She won her first Oscar in 1979’s Kramer vs. Kramer and won Best Actress for her role in 1982’s Sophie’s Choice. In 2011, she once again received an Oscar for Best Actress for her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady.
