Michelle Dockery was born on December 15, 1981 in Rush Green, England, UK. To become an actress, she trained at the Finch Stage School and attended the Guildhall School of Music & Drama where she graduated in 2004. Afterwards, she made her professional debut by performing on the stage production of His Dark Materials.

In 2005, she made her television debut in Fingersmith and appeared on such TV shows as Dalziel and Pascoe, Waking the Dead, and Return to Cranford before achieving success for her role as Lady Mary Crawley in Downton Abbey, which has earned her three Emmy nominations, as well as one Golden Globe nomination. In 2011, she made her theatrical debut in Hanna. Other films are Anna Karenina, Non-Stop, and Self/less.
