Mitch Pileggi is an American actor whose career started in the mid-1980s. He initially appeared in the films Three O’Clock High, Death Wish 4: The Crackdown, Return of the Living Dead Part II, and Shocker. On TV, he debuted in 1990 as Morrisey in some episodes of Dallas. His breakthrough role on the small screen was as Walter Skinner in The X-Files. He reprised the role in the 1998 film of the same name, as well as in the 2008 sequel The X-Files: I Want to Believe.
In the 2000s, he also became known for playing Richard Clayton in Tarzan, Colin Dowling in The Mountain, Commissioner James Gordon in The Batman, Colonel Steven Caldwell in Stargate Atlantis, Detective Spivak in Day Break, and Larry Jennings in Grey’s Anatomy. He went on to play Ernest Darby in Sons of Anarchy, Samuel Campbell/Azazel in Supernatural, and Harris Ryland in Dallas. In 2019, he appeared in the feature film Polaroid.
