Nelly Furtado was born on December 2, 1978 in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. She began her career as a recording artist when she released her debut album, Whoa, Nelly!, in October 2000.

The album became a worldwide hit, particularly the singles “I’m like a Bird”, “Turn off the Light”, and “…On the Radio (Remember the Days)”.

In 2002, she received four Grammy nominations for the album and her debut single won the Best Female Pop Vocal Performance award. She has since sold 20 million albums and more than 20 million singles worldwide.
