Rick Cosnett was born on April 6, 1983 in Chegutu, Zimbabwe. He was raised in Australia. Fellow actor Hugh Grant is his cousin. He started his acting career in the mid 2000s when he appeared in the Australian television show Forensic Investigators from 2004 to 2005. He next played a recurring role in headLand, another Australian show. In 2006, he made his film debut with the Australian indie movie The Bet.

In the next few years, he acted on Australian television with such shows as East West 101 and The New Inventors, as well as in the Canadian miniseries The Trojan Horse. Her first work on an American show was in The Vampire Diaries where he appeared in 12 episodes playing the role of Wes Maxfield. He gained widespread recognition in 2014 after playing the role of Eddie Thawne in The Flash‘s first season. As of 2015, he plays the recurring role of Elias Harper in Quantico.
