Rob Benedict was born on September 21, 1970 in Columbia, Missouri. He studied at Northwestern University. There, he completed his degree in Performance Studies. In 1996, he made his TV debut on Beverly Hills, 90210. His first significant role was as Richard on the TV series Felicity. In 1999, he had his film debut in Tequila Body Shots. He next starred as Preston Wasserstein in the film Not Another Teen Movie.

Afterwards, he had recurring roles on the TV shows Birds of Prey and Come to Papa. He next joined the main cast of the TV series Threshold. His next starring role on TV was on Head Case where he starred as Jeremy Berger. From 2009 to 2016, he starred recurrently as Chuck Shurley/Carver Edlund on Supernatural. He also appeared as Jonathan Laurents on Masters of Sex.
