Robert Carlyle is a Scottish actor. During the ’90s, he had performances in the films Silent Scream (debut), Being Human, and Priest, among others. He also played the title role on the TV series Hamish Macbeth. In 1996, he starred as Francis “Franco” Begbie in Danny Boyle’s Trainspotting. This earned him a BAFTA Scotland nomination for Best Actor. He next starred as Gary “Gaz” Schofield in The Full Monty, winning the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role.
He later had a supporting role in the James Bond film The World Is Not Enough. In the 2000s, he starred in the movies The Beach, The 51st State, Eragon, 28 Weeks Later, and Stone of Destiny. His performance in the miniseries Human Trafficking got him a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor. Later in 2009, he starred as Doctor Nicholas Rush in Stargate Universe. More recently, he’s best known for his role as Rumplestiltskin / Mr. Gold / Weaver in Once Upon a Time.
