Biography:
Sam Riley was born on January 8, 1980 in Menston, West Yorkshire, England, UK. He made his theatrical debut when he portrayed singer Ian Curtis in the biographical drama Control, for which he had won acclaim despite being his first feature film. For his performance, he received a British Independent Film Award nomination for Best Actor, among other nominations.
He has since starred in other films, including Franklyn, 13, Brighton Rock and Byzantium. He has also portrayed Sal Paradise in the 2012 film adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s novel On the Road and starred as Diaval in the 2014 film Maleficent opposite Angelina Jolie, garnering him further fame by exposing him to a wider audience.
