Shannyn Sossamon was born on October 3, 1978 in Honolulu, Hawaii. She moved to Los Angeles a day after her high school graduation to pursue a career in dance.

She started modeling instead, appearing in advertising campaigns for such companies as Sassy Magazine, American Eagle Outfitters and Planned Parenthood.

She made her breakthrough when she beat Kate Hudson for the female lead in the 2001 film A Knight’s Tale opposite Heath Ledger.

It became a box-office success and earned her a Young Hollywood Award for Breakthrough Female Performance, as well as Teen Choice and MTV Movie Awards nominations.
