Hollywood star Tessa Thompson started acting professionally in 2005, debuting in an episode of Cold Case. She then landed her first starring role on TV, playing Jackie Cook on Veronica Mars. Following this, she starred as Nikki Barnes on the short-lived series Hidden Palms. In 2006, she made her big screen debut as Scarlet in the movie When a Stranger Calls. She next appeared in the film Make It Happen. She was then noticed for her performance in the 2009 film Mississippi Damned. In the 2010s, she had performances in the films Exquisite Corpse, For Colored Girls, Dear White People, and Grantham & Rose.

She next portrayed Diane Nash in the historical movie Selma. In 2015, she starred as Bianca Porter in the sports drama film Creed, a spin-off and sequel to the Rocky film series. After this, she starred in the movie War on Everyone. She rose to greater prominence playing the role of Valkyrie in the superhero film Thor: Ragnarok. More recently, she starred in the movies Sorry to Bother You, Annihilation, Furlough, and Little Woods. She’ll also reprise her role as Bianca Porter in Creed II. As of 2016, she also plays Charlotte Hale on the HBO series Westworld. Other notable roles on television were on 666 Park Avenue and Copper.

For her role as Valkyrie in the movie Thor: Ragnarok, the actress upped her workout routine to improve her physique. She also revealed that she gained muscle mass in order to have a warrior-like figure. “I gained about 15 pounds of muscle mass, which yeah, it was a lot for me,” she said in an interview. Her trainer also shared how they trained up to six times a week. So, what was her regimen like? Her trainer said it was all about doing “high-intensity interval training using bodyweight and weight training. We would start by warming the body up with movements such as squats, push-ups, and pull-ups, and then move on to working one part of the body, mainly the lower or upper body.”
