Thora Birch is an American actress. She started her career in the late 1980s, debuting in the 1988 film Purple People Eater. On television, she had her first role as Molly on the NBC sitcom Day by Day. During the ’90s, she starred as Taylor Buckman on Parenthood. She later had roles in the films Paradise, All I Want for Christmas, Patriot Games, Hocus Pocus, Monkey Trouble, Clear and Present Danger, Now and Then, and Alaska. In 1999, she gained greater fame for starring as Jane Burnham in Sam Mendes’ American Beauty. She next starred in The Smokers, Dungeons & Dragons, The Hole, Ghost World, Silver City, Slingshot, and Dark Corners. After playing the title role in the 2012 film Petunia, Birch took a break from acting. She returned in 2016, mostly working in independent films. She also played recurring character Morgan on the USA Network series Colony.
