Biography:

Viggo Mortensen was born on October 20, 1958 in New York City, New York, U.S. He attended St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York where he completed a degree in Spanish Studies and Politics in 1980.

He then traveled to Europe where he took different jobs such as selling flowers in Copenhagen. After two years, he returned to the US to pursue a career in acting.

In 1985, he made his film debut with the feature Witness. He has since played supporting roles in such movies as Crimson Tide, G.I. Jane and many others before his breakthrough came in 1999 when he was cast as Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings film series.
