Whoopi Goldberg is an American actress and comedian. She had her breakthrough for starring in Steven Spielberg’s 1985 film The Color Purple. She received an Academy Award nomination for her performance and won her first Golden Globe. She next starred in the films Jumpin’ Jack Flash, Fatal Beauty, and Clara’s Heart, among others. In 1990, she starred as Oda Mae Brown in the film Ghost.
For her role, she won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. She later starred as the lead in the comedy film Sister Act where she got a Golden Globe nomination. She reprised her role in the sequel Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit. Later, she portrayed Myrlie Evers in the film Ghosts of Mississippi. She became further known for hosting her own show – The Whoopi Goldberg Show. Since 2007, she appears as a co-host in the TV program The View.
