Biography:

Yaya DaCosta was born on November 15, 1982 in New York City, United States. She studied at Brown University where she majored in Africana Studies and International Relations. She later joined America’s Next Top Model Cycle 3 where she finished second place. After her modeling career, she pursued acting. Her first starring role was as Cassandra Foster on the soap opera All My Children.

In 2006, she made her cinematic debut in Take the Lead. She has since had roles in the films Honeydripper and The Messenger. In 2010, she starred as Tanya in the movie The Kids Are All Right. Subsequent films include Tron: Legacy, In Time, Whole Lotta Sole, Mother of George, and The Butler. In 2015, she portrayed Whitney Houston in the Lifetime biopic, Whitney. She currently stars as April Sexton on Chicago Med.
