Biography:

Zayn Malik was born on January 12, 1993 in Bradford, England. During his teens, he took performing arts courses and starred in school productions.

At the age of 17, he competed in the reality show The X Factor. He failed to progress to the “Boys” category but he was teamed up with four other male contestants to form the boy band One Direction.

Performing as One Direction, the group became one of the most famous finalists in the competition. They later finished in the third place and were signed to Simon Cowell’s Syco music label. Their first single, “What Makes You Beautiful” was released in September 2011 and immediately topped several music charts.
